Awards and Grants

The Colorado Mountain Club administers several grantmaking funds and annual awards. Do you know an outstanding climber, volunteer or community leader? Seeking funding for a special educational or safety-oriented project? Below are details about grant and award opportunities through the CMC, including deadlines and applications.

 

Awards

 

Blaurock “Silver Piton” Volunteer of the Year Award

Awarded to a CMC member who serves as a positive and inspirational example of volunteerism, investing a substantial amount of volunteer effort in Colorado Mountain Club activities which result cumulatively in a significant improvement to the Club. Application Deadline: September 10, 2021.

Gudy Gaskill Award

Awarded annually to a woman CMC member who serves as a positive and inspirational example of volunteerism, investing a substantial amount of volunteer effort in Colorado Mountain Club activities which result cumulatively in a significant improvement to the Club. Application Deadline: September 10, 2021.

Ellingwood “Golden Ice Axe” Mountaineering Achievement Award

Awarded to a CMC member who best reflects the Colorado Mountain Club’s climbing ethics, demonstrates and teaches strong climbing skills, exemplifies leadership in positive manner and pushes the boundaries of climbing accomplishments in Colorado and around the world. We will not be offering this award this year.

Grants

Steve Gladbach Education Fund

The Steve Gladbach Education Fund provides support for mountain safety education through small grants. CMC members representing CMC School or Group Committees and CMC program staff may apply for funding for educational purposes that meet the emphasis of the fund on mountain safety education. We will not be offering this award this year.

Eckart Roder Education Fund

The Eckart Roder Education Fund supports continued education and service at the Colorado Mountain Club through small grants. Any CMC member (or aspiring member) may apply for funding to pursue outdoor adventures with an emphasis on mountain safety, responsibility and/or courtesy. Application Deadline: December 31, 2021.

Colorado Mountain Club Foundation Academic Fellowships

 

The CMC Foundation solicits applications from students enrolled in Colorado colleges and universities conducting research in the Rocky Mountains or this region or students outside Colorado whose research is focused on the Rocky Mountain region.
