The Youth Education Program (YEP) of the Colorado Mountain Club relies on a dedicated group of volunteers to deliver experiential and environmental education to over 8,700 Denver area youth each year. Volunteering with YEP is a great way to share your love of Colorado’s great outdoor spaces and activities with the next generation of outdoor stewards! 

Why volunteer with YEP? 

  • Make an impact in a student’s life. 
  • Many students we work during the school year have limited/ no experience with outdoor activities. 
  • Join a community of outdoor enthusiasts excited about sharing their passion for the outdoors to the next generation. 
  • Choose the level of involvement that best fits your interests and schedule 
  • Flexible scheduling:
    • Assistants sign up for available shifts with no minimum hours required
    • Trip Leaders schedule trips when it works with their schedule (must lead at least 5 trips/ year) 
  • Youth-focused professional development sessions offered 4x/ year; online training and curriculum resources available to any active volunteer 
  • Earn outdoor gear or clothing perks from the CMC and our generous sponsors through completing more hours and attending annual staff & volunteer gatherings

 

We are looking for volunteers who: 

  • Have a love for nature and outdoor activities
  • Have experience with kids ages 5-18 (or a desire to gain experience with kids)
  • Are committed, flexible, friendly, and a positive team player
  • Have a background in the outdoors (especially in rock climbing or hiking)
  • Have reliable transportation to our office in Golden and to offsite locations
  • Are 16 years of age or older

 

Choose your level of involvement in one (or more) of these options: 

 

Basecamp Assistant- help YEP staff with Schools & Groups programs by belaying youth climbers, facilitating small group activities, and supporting with safety and group management.

 

Summit Trip Leader- follow the CMC trip leader track to organize your own youth activities or serve a School Group lead on your choice of programs. 

(must be an active CMC member)

Summer Small Group Assistant- work alongside a YEP instructor and choose your level of leadership for a weeklong small group summer camp.
